Dizziness is often treatable — and we’re extra careful for a reason
Most dizziness is not dangerous and the good news is that many types of dizziness are very treatable.
In fact, we help people with dizziness all the time.
Sometimes it is related to the inner ear. Sometimes it is positional. Sometimes it is tied to how the body is regulating movement, balance, or position changes.
Symptoms can show up as spinning, lightheadedness, feeling off balance, nausea, motion sensitivity, visual discomfort or that strange “something just feels off” feeling.
A lot of the time, these symptoms respond really well to the right treatment.
But not all dizziness behaves the same way.
That is why, if you come in dizzy, we may ask you more questions than usual.
Please do not let that worry you.
It does not mean we think something is seriously wrong. It means we like to be thoughtful and extra cautious with our dizzy patients, because we want to make sure your symptoms fit a pattern that is safe and appropriate for us to treat.
If your dizziness is brief, position-related, or behaving like a common and treatable vestibular issue, great — that is often something we can help with.
If your symptoms seem unusual, more intense than expected or come with things like trouble walking, unusual weakness, changes in vision, severe headache, confusion or repeated vomiting, we may recommend that you get checked further first.
That is not us being dramatic. That is us taking good care of you.
Our goal is never to scare you. Our goal is to help you feel better and to make sure we are doing that in the safest and smartest way possible.
So if we are a little extra with our questions when dizziness is involved, just know it is coming from a good place.
We can often help.
And when we need to be cautious, we will be.
